Starting and ending in Tsumeb, Namibia, the route crosses the border into Angola and heads into Iona National Park, before tracking the Atlantic coast to Namibe and climbing the legendary Serra da Leba Pass on the return journey — a rare and rewarding glimpse into one of Southern Africa’s last true frontiers.
The expedition crosses into Angola and heads deep into Iona National Park — Angola’s oldest and largest protected wilderness, a vast, otherworldly desert landscape of shifting dunes, ancient welwitschia plants and rugged mountain backdrops. Within the park lies Doodsakker, a hauntingly beautiful stretch of desert strewn with bleached, skeletal trees — a stark and unforgettable landscape found nowhere else on the route.
From here, the route tracks west to the Atlantic coastline, where the charming port city of Namibe offers a welcome change of pace — colonial architecture, fresh seafood and sweeping ocean views along one of Africa’s most remote coastlines.
