Tour Information

Iona National Park & Doodsakker

The expedition crosses into Angola and heads deep into Iona National Park — Angola’s oldest and largest protected wilderness, a vast, otherworldly desert landscape of shifting dunes, ancient welwitschia plants and rugged mountain backdrops. Within the park lies Doodsakker, a hauntingly beautiful stretch of desert strewn with bleached, skeletal trees — a stark and unforgettable landscape found nowhere else on the route.

From here, the route tracks west to the Atlantic coastline, where the charming port city of Namibe offers a welcome change of pace — colonial architecture, fresh seafood and sweeping ocean views along one of Africa’s most remote coastlines.

Highlights of this region:

  • Iona National Park, Angola’s oldest and largest protected wilderness
  • Doodsakker’s eerie, otherworldly desert landscape
  • Ancient welwitschia plants scattered across the desert plains
  • The charming coastal city of Namibe and its Atlantic shoreline
