Tour Details
Golden Gate Highlands National Park is one of South Africa’s most scenic national parks, located in the North Eastern Free State province. It is known for its dramatic landscapes, golden-hued sandstone cliffs, and rich biodiversity. The park’s name comes from the golden glow that the sandstone cliffs take on at sunrise and sunset, creating a striking visual effect, especially when bathed in the warm light of the sun.
The Drakensberg is a stunning mountain range that stretches through South Eastern South Africa, forming a natural border between the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and the Kingdom of Lesotho. The name “Drakensberg” comes from the Dutch word for “Dragon Mountains” (Dutch: Draakensbergen), which is thought to refer to the mountain range’s rugged and dramatic appearance.
The Drakensberg’s defining feature is the Great Escarpment, a steep cliff that drops dramatically into the lowlands of South Africa. The escarpment offers breath taking views of the valleys below.
Lesotho is a small, landlocked country completely surrounded by South Africa. It is known for its mountainous terrain, rich cultural heritage, and unique position as one of the only independent states in the world that lies entirely above 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) in elevation. With its stunning landscapes and distinct traditions, Lesotho offers a fascinating and unique experience for travellers and historians alike.
