Experience Kruger National Park the way it was meant to be explored — from the cab of your own 4×4, guided by a FGASA-qualified expert who knows every game trail, river crossing, and wildlife hotspot in the park.

Spanning nearly 20 000 km² across South Africa’s north-eastern corner, Kruger is one of Africa’s largest and most celebrated game reserves. Tour Information

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Established in 1898 as the Sabie Game Reserve, Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s great conservation success stories. Today it spans nearly 20 000 km² across South Africa’s Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, protecting an extraordinary mosaic of habitats: dense bushveld, open savannah, ancient river systems, riparian woodland, and seasonal wetlands.

Each habitat supports its own remarkable wildlife community, making Kruger one of the most biodiverse parks on the continent.

Wildlife highlights include:

  • The Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, white & black rhino, and Cape buffalo
  • African wild dog — subject of an active conservation breeding programme
  • Cheetah, spotted hyena, wild cat & honey badger
  • Giraffe, zebra, hippo, crocodile, impala, kudu & waterbuck
  • Over 100 mammal species in total
  • More than 500 bird species — one of the highest counts of any park in Africa
  • The Sabie and Crocodile Rivers — prime game-viewing corridors year-round

Kruger Safari Tour – FAQ

Your tour includes camping fees, national park entry and conservation fees, daily dinners, a FGASA-qualified professional guide, VHF radio communication, and full convoy support throughout the 8-day expedition.

Kruger National Park has one of the highest Big Five densities of any park in Africa, and July — peak dry season — is the best time of year for sightings. Lion, elephant, buffalo and white rhino are seen on virtually every game drive. Leopard is the most secretive of the five, but the reduced bush cover in winter increases sightings dramatically. We never guarantee specific sightings, but Kruger in July gives you the best possible odds.

July is mid-winter in South Africa — the bush is at its most open, water sources are critically low, and wildlife concentrates around the rivers and waterholes in exceptional numbers. Predators are active during the day in the cool temperatures, vegetation is low for excellent visibility, and the roads are dry and accessible. It is widely regarded as the single best month for game viewing in Kruger.

FGASA stands for the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa — the professional body that sets and maintains guiding standards across the region. A FGASA-qualified guide has completed rigorous training in ecology, animal behaviour, tracking, safety and bush craft. Our guide provides expert interpretation at every sighting, turning good game drives into extraordinary ones.

While Kruger’s main roads are accessible in a standard vehicle, the bush camps and many of the best game-viewing tracks require a high-clearance 4×4. A 4×4 also gives you access to the park’s wilderness zones and allows more flexibility on where the group can go. Off-road trailers are welcome; large caravans are not suitable for the bush campsites.

We camp at a mix of SANParks bush camps and wilderness campsites within the park — unfenced, authentic, and immersive. These are not the large rest camps with restaurants and shops; they are smaller, quieter sites where the bush comes right to your tent and the night sounds of Kruger are your only soundtrack. Details are shared with confirmed bookings.
