Tour Information

The Okavango Delta, Botswana

The Okavango Delta is one of the natural wonders of the world — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the planet’s largest inland delta, where the Okavango River pours 11 cubic kilometres of water annually into the sands of the Kalahari, creating a vast seasonal wetland teeming with extraordinary life.

September sits perfectly in the dry season, when game concentrates around water and sightings are at their peak.

Wildlife highlights include:

  • The Big Five — all present in Moremi Game Reserve
  • African wild dog — one of the highest pack densities on the continent
  • Lechwe, sable antelope, plains zebra, Nile crocodile & hippo
  • Giraffe, cheetah, brown & spotted hyena
  • Over 400 bird species — African fish eagle, lilac-breasted roller, crested crane & sacred ibis
  • Third Bridge campsite — one of Africa’s most iconic bush camps

Moremi Game Reserve & the Khwai River

Moremi Game Reserve covers roughly a third of the Okavango Delta and is widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuaries. Unlike most reserves in southern Africa, Moremi encompasses both dry land and seasonal floodplains, papyrus channels, mopane woodland and open savannah — creating an astonishing diversity of habitats in a single reserve.

We camp on the banks of the Khwai River — a legendary game-viewing corridor where elephants cross metres from your tent, lion prides patrol the floodplain edges after dark, and every morning brings fresh tracks around camp. This is unfenced wilderness camping at its most authentic: no electric fences, no barriers between you and the bush.

Highlights of the Moremi & Khwai experience:

  • Third Bridge — one of Africa’s most famous and atmospheric campsites
  • Khwai River floodplain — year-round elephant, hippo & buffalo
  • Night sounds: lions, hyenas & the African dark at its most alive
  • Mokoro (dugout canoe) experience on the delta channels
  • Enormous concentrations of waterbirds along the river margins

Your tour includes camping fees, national park and conservation fees, daily dinners, a professional guide, VHF radio communication, Starlink internet, and full convoy support throughout the expedition.

Yes — the Okavango Delta was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2014. It is the world’s largest inland delta, where the Okavango River fans out into the Kalahari sands, creating a seasonal wetland of extraordinary biodiversity and beauty.

The dry season (May–October) is widely regarded as the best time. This tour departs 18–29 September 2026, placing you in peak game-viewing season when animals concentrate around water sources and wildlife sightings — including wild dog and lion — are at their most reliable.

Yes. Both Moremi Game Reserve and the Khwai area require a high-clearance 4×4. Sandy tracks, water crossings and seasonal floodplain roads make a capable off-road vehicle essential. Off-road trailers are welcome; large caravans are not recommended.

No experience is required. This is a fully guided convoy expedition with a professional guide and VHF radio communication throughout — ideal for first-time overlanders and experienced travellers alike. You will never be on your own.

The Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve have one of the highest African wild dog pack densities on the continent, making this one of the best places in Africa to see them. Sightings are never guaranteed, but September is peak season and the conditions are excellent.
