The Richtersveld is South Africa’s most remote and otherworldly national park — a mountainous desert of volcanic rock, razor-edged kloofs and sweeping coastal plains along the Orange River border with Namibia. Terrain ranges from sea level to 1 377 m at Cornellsberg, and the landscape shifts dramatically with every kilometre of trail. It has been described as ‘Martian’, and it earns the comparison: vast, silent, and sculpted by geological forces spanning billions of years.
