Two of Africa’s most extraordinary destinations, one unforgettable 19-day guided 4×4 adventure. This tour takes you from the legendary wildlife corridors of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park to the honey-gold beaches and crystal waters of Lake Malawi — a journey that blends world-class safari with a genuine taste of African lakeside life.
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Widely regarded as one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries on earth, South Luangwa is defined by the Luangwa River — the most intact major river system in Africa — and its ancient network of oxbow lagoons. The concentration of animals along these waterways is among the most intense anywhere on the continent. Large lion prides roam the valley floor, and South Luangwa has earned its reputation as the “Valley of the Leopard” for good reason: this is one of Africa’s few parks to permit spotlight night drives, giving you a genuine chance of extraordinary leopard encounters after dark. Wild dog, spotted hyena, elephant, hippo, and buffalo are all regular sightings. Among the herbivores, keep an eye out for three species found nowhere else: the striking Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest, and Crawshay’s zebra — each endemic to this valley.
Cape Maclear, Lake Malawi
After the intensity of the bush, Cape Maclear delivers something completely different — and equally spectacular. Set on the southern shore of Lake Malawi within the world’s first freshwater national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cape Maclear is a stretch of sun-warmed sand lapped by impossibly clear turquoise water. The lake is home to more freshwater fish species than anywhere else on the planet, the colourful mbuna cichlids feeding directly from your hands. The local fishing village of Chembe brings authentic African lakeside culture right to the waterfront — a vivid, living contrast to the manicured beach in front of the lodges.
Come prepared and self-sufficient for remote wilderness camping, and ready to unwind on one of Africa’s most beautiful beaches. This tour is limited to a maximum of 7 vehicles and is off-road trailer friendly.
