Discover one of South Africa’s last true wilderness frontiers on the Namaqua Eco Trail & Orange River Adventure. This unforgettable overland journey takes you through the spectacular landscapes of the Northern Cape, where ancient mountains, rugged desert terrain, historic mission towns and the life-giving Orange River combine to create an adventure unlike any other.
Beginning at Kameeldoring Farm (with a visit to nearby Augrabies Falls National Park available as an optional add-on), the expedition follows remote backcountry routes to the historic oasis of Pella before reaching the tranquil banks of the mighty Orange River, then continues into the UNESCO-recognised Richtersveld before concluding in the flower capital, Springbok.
The journey begins at Kameeldoring Farm, before following remote backcountry routes to the historic oasis of Pella. (Augrabies Falls National Park is located nearby and can be visited as an optional add-on before or after the tour.) From there, the trail reaches the tranquil banks of the mighty Orange River, where several nights are spent at peaceful riverside camps — including Groot Melkhoutboom and Kamgab River Camp — with dramatic sunsets and abundant birdlife along one of Southern Africa’s most important waterways.
The route then follows the river west towards Vioolsdrift, tracing the border between South Africa and Namibia through increasingly remote and dramatic desert scenery.

From Vioolsdrift, the adventure enters the world-renowned Richtersveld — a UNESCO-recognised wilderness celebrated for its extraordinary desert scenery, towering mountains, unique succulent flora and rich Nama cultural heritage. Travelling through remote settlements such as Eksteenfontein and Kuboes, you’ll explore landscapes that remain virtually untouched, offering incredible photographic opportunities and an authentic off-the-grid experience.
Each evening is spent at carefully selected desert camps beneath crystal-clear night skies, before the trail exits the Richtersveld and heads to Springbok — the Northern Cape’s flower capital — to conclude the journey.
